The seer Vangelina Pandeva Gushterova, known as Baba Vanga and also as the “Nostradamus of the Balkans”, died in 1996, aged 85. Despite becoming popular, Baba Vanga’s prophecies are questioned. According to the Bulgarian newspaper 24chasa, which went to investigate her story, in fact she would have been a normal, charitable lady who never made predictions during her life. The supposed predictions attributed to her would only have started to circulate more than 10 years after her death. Skeptics also point out that seers’ texts are often so vague that they can serve to explain any event.
